The ENVILAB team of the Environmental Pollution Control Laboratory, is located in the University of Thessaloniki.

The main research interests and activities include:

  • Quality control of aquatic and terrestrial systems and appreciation of the pollution's level in the environment

  • Measurements of physicochemical parameters in aquatic systems

  • Determination of inorganic (heavy metals etc) and organic pollutes (pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated hydrocarbons, phenols, pharmaceuticals compounds) in environmental samples (drinkable water, surface water, sediment, soil) and biological samples.

  • Quality control in vegetable and livestock agricultural products for trace of toxic organic compounds (pesticides, antibiotics)

  • Development of new techniques for environmental pollution control

  • Study of the transport, route and distribution of pollutes in environmental samples

  • Development of new technologies of processing aquatic and liquid wastes

  • Evaluation of drinkable water filters

  • Toxicological analysis

  • Administration of solid and liquid wastes

  • Implementation of geographical software for representation of results and effective administration of polluted territories
